Freddie Harris Sr. Obituary

Freddie Lee Harris, Sr., was born in Portland, TN, on January 8, 1936, to the late Mary M. Flowers. As a young child, he relocated to Franklin, KY, with his mother. Growing up as an only child, Freddie found companionship and love within his maternal grandmother Carrie Brewer's home, alongside his beloved aunts and cousins, who were like siblings to him. Freddie embraced his faith early in life and was baptized at Elevated Baptist Church.

Completing his education in Franklin, Freddie graduated from Lincoln High School, where he distinguished himself in athletics, earning Varsity letters in both football and basketball. Following his graduation in 1955, he moved to Indianapolis, IN, where he lived with his Aunt Mamie. He briefly served in the Army, being honorably discharged in July 1958.

It was in an Indianapolis bowling alley where Freddie's life took a pivotal turn as he met his soulmate, Patricia Rose O’Bannon. Through his patient guidance in bowling, love blossomed, culminating in their marriage on January 30, 1965. This union was blessed with three children: Tonya, Freddie Jr., and Jamie.

Early in their marriage, Freddie worked for General Electric in Louisville, KY, making regular weekend trips to be with his wife. Eventually settling in Louisville to be closer to his mother, Freddie transitioned to a career in insurance sales. An enthusiastic bowler, he secured numerous victories in various leagues and tournaments, complementing his interests in tennis and later in life, golf. Freddie's ingenuity was boundless, and he shared his skills generously with his children, nieces, nephews, and neighbors.

In 1998, Freddie and Patricia embarked on a new chapter, retiring to Las Vegas, NV. Here, he savored his days indulging in his passions for golf, travel, and cherished family moments. On March 25, 2024, after 26 fulfilling years in Las Vegas, Freddie answered the Lord's call to rest. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Flowers, and his beloved aunts and uncles.

Left to honor his memory are his wife, Patricia R. Harris of Las, Vegas, NV; his children: Deborah McCauley of Circleville, OH, Marcus (Deece) Flippin of McComb, MS, Tonya (Kevin) Harris-Taylor of Churchton, MD, Freddie Jr. (Sarah) Harris, and Jamie (Deatta) Harris, all of Indianapolis, IN; along with 12 grandchildren, and a multitude of loving cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Freddie Lee Harris, Sr., will be remembered for his unwavering love, generosity, and zest for life. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and inspiration that will forever endure in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May his soul find eternal peace in the embrace of the Divine.
