James Sterling Johnson Obituary

James Sterling Johnson, affectionally known as Shag” slept peacefully away on May 29, 2024. James was born in Franklin, Kentucky to the late Earl and Lena Mae “Jimmie” Johnson on June 14, 1950. At an early age, James confessed his faith in Christ and was baptized at the Greater Taylor Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church.  Along with his grandmother Ethel Johnson and Aunt Ida Johnson, James enjoyed attending church. James attended Lincoln Elementary School for first through eighth grades. Later, he attended Franklin Simpson High School and was one of the first group of African American Students to be integrated into Franklin Simpson High School. After high school, James worked at Lenks (Dracketts) where he also retired from.  After retirement, James enjoyed spending time with his family more than anything and watching old movies. James was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lena Mae “Jimmie”Johnson.  He leaves behind a loving daughter-Angie (Darryl) Payne and a beautiful granddaughter named Ashanti. He also leaves behind two brothers Kenneth Lane Johnson (Scottsville, KY) and Carlos (Nikia) Johnson (Florence, KY), two sisters Jo Evelyn (Aaron) Milliken of Bowling Green, KY and Marie (Haleston) of Smiths Grove, KY

Visitation will be on Tuesday June 4, 2024 from 6:00PM to 7:30PM at Franklin Funeral Directors Funeral Home Franklin, Ky

Visitation will be on Wednesday June 5, 2024 from 11:00AM to 1:00AM, The Funeral Service will follow starting at 1:00PM at Greater Taylor AME Church Franklin, Ky

Burial will be at Shady Rest Cemetery Franklin, Ky
