Johnnie L Young Obituary

Johnnie Louise Patterson-Young, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025 in Bowling Green, KY. Johnnie was born on December 22, 1933 in Oakland, KY and lived a life filled with joy, kindness, and unwavering love.  She dedicated her life to nurturing her children, offering unwavering support and guidance. She possessed a warm beautiful smile, a listening ear, and a heart filled with compassion.

Johnnie had a passion for gardening, camping, and spending time with family. She was known for her strong work ethic, her intense love for family, and her unwavering faith in the Lord. As the last living matriarch of both the Young and Patterson families, her memory will be forever cherished through the countless acts of kindness and the beautiful moments she created.

A 1953 graduate of State Street High and lifelong resident of Franklin, KY., Johnnie was a nurse assistant at Franklin-Simpson Memorial Hospital and later retired as an inspector from Seal Power Corporation. As a devoted Christian, Johnnie was a faithful servant within the church as well as the community. She was an active member serving as a piano player for Mt. Zion Church and Loving Chapel Baptist Church, assistant Sunday school teacher, and served within the Missionary Society and Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post. She was president of TOPS of Franklin, KY and served as a committed foster grandparent of the Simpson County School System.

Johnnie was a devoted wife to Ray Young, with who she shared 54 years of marriage. They moved to Indianapolis where they resided for five years. In May of 1958, they returned to Franklin, KY where they reunited with Ray’s home church, Loving Chapel Baptist Church. She was a loving mother to Debra King, Larry (Brenda) Young, and Dwayne Young; a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren; and a great-grandmother to twenty-one great-grandchildren. Along with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she leaves to cherish a host of devoted nieces, nephews, friends, family, and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray Junior Young; her loving parents, William and Clyde Patterson; and her devoted five sisters, and two brothers.
