Rev. Marion Pete Smith Obituary

Marion Benjamin-Thomas "Pete" Smith. Born on February 4, 1947, in the town of Simpson County, Kentucky, Pete was not just a friend, but a beloved member of our community, whose impact will resonate for years to come.

From an early age, Pete embraced his faith, accepting Jesus Christ at Elevated Baptist Church. His journey of service to God was evident throughout his life, culminating in his role as an Associate Pastor, a position he held with honor until his passing on April 28, 2025, at Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Pete was a proud alumni of Lincoln High School in Franklin, KY, where he laid the foundation for a life committed to learning and growth. He went on to further his education at Hopkinsville College of the Bible, showcasing his commitment not just to education, but to the principles of service and community that we all value immensely. After a successful career at Flex Technologies, where he worked for 32 years, Pete retired to spend more time with his family and spread the word of how good God had been to him.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Vanesa Smith; his sister, Barbara (Roy) Lockhart of Louisville, KY; his daughters, Melissa Smith of Houston, TX, Sharron (Craig) Lamar of Phillip Ranch, CA, Marian Smith of Bowling Green, KY, and Qiana Downey of Franklin, KY; his son Keith (LaMonica) Smith of Bowling Green, KY; along with six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pete was preceded in death by his brothers, Ovell Barbee and James Sterling Smith, His sister, Patricia Williams and his son Darion Thomas Smith.

Pete had a profound love for the Lord, sharing his faith with anyone who would listen. His passion for life was evident in every conversation, where he spoke openly about his devotion. He cherished time spent with his wife, children, and extended family, always emphasizing the importance of togetherness.

Fishing was more than a pastime for Pete; it was a cherished opportunity to connect with God amidst nature. He often said that those quiet moments by the water allowed him to hear the Lord's voice. Fashion was another of Pete's passions—he loved dressing to impress and had a remarkable collection of colognes. Whether he was out shopping or attending a game to cheer on his favorite teams, he always brought his unique style and energy.

Musically, Pete had a deep appreciation for Gospel music and the soulful sounds of Earth, Wind & Fire. Music filled his heart with joy, and he often used it as a way to connect with others he would always send out a song for people to listen to.

Perhaps what stood out the most about Pete was his kindness and his open heart. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, regardless of their circumstances.

As we gather our thoughts and memories of Pete, let us hold onto the joy of knowing him. He never liked to say goodbye, so let’s remember his words: "Toodles, take your rest Pete.
